Customs

Reported on March 18, 2011 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #32337

I came to India and brought two laptops with me. I knew that I had to pay the custom duty on my laptop and was ready for it.(but still did not declare it, my fault, thought I could get away)

The custom office was checking and I showed him that I am having two laptops. I said I am ready to pay the duty. But he started talking in a friendly manner and with a cool attitude. He just asked me, do I need more help? I said, I am ready to pay the dues and please start the process.

His subordinates came in and started asking me whether I need help and started giving the officer some other directions. I said to his subordinate that I am ready to pay the duty and please let him do his job.

From that time, the office and his subordinates couldn't see me in my eyes. They were referring me as "sir" whenever they want to talk to me. I could see in their eyes that they were ashamed.

I was happy when I walked out and my father told that story to everyone he met.

What's your reaction?
