Drunk and wants bribe

Reported on November 30, 2012 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #31122

I landed in Bombay for a week to visit my family -it was around midnight. Had my used laptop and ipad. The immigration officer stopped me and asked why I had both. Informed this was for work related purposes. To begin with, he was drunk and asked for Rs.500 to let me through. I was surpirsed and asked why I should pay. He then angrily told me to stop arguing and pay up. I then requested to speak to one of his colleagues as he was drunk and on hearing this, he told me to move to one side. After waiting for 10 minutes, I was again told not to trouble him otherwise I would be sent to jail. But be let off if I paid Rs1,000 (Rs,500 additional for wasting his time). But I refused to pay the Rs,1,000 and waited for 90 minutes.
Finally, the officer seeing I was not going to budge let me go.
So what did I learn - not to take the short cut and instead fight this menace which is destroying our country. And the other lesson - ALWAYS note down the name/badge number of the officer (which I missed doing).

STAND UP TO CORRUPTION
