Paying Duty for Imported Goods
I travel many times a year to India from Dallas, Texas. When I come to India, I carry liquor that is not available in India and therefore bring in more than allowed quota to give as gifts to frients (not really expensive items). I always declare it and am told that it is more than the quota and will not be allowed to bring it in. I then ask them to charge me duty for the liqour (I keep the bills for the purchase of liquor). When I tell them that I want to pay the duty, they sometimes waive me through, and sometimes ask me to pay the duty at a window. All is well and I walk through the customs clean. I have never paid a bribe, ever, and will never pay one in my life.
