Bribe to police - but the other side of the story

I paid a bribe of Rs 300 to get my passport verification way back in 2003. But in case of police officers we have to view them sympathetically because they work long hours and get peanuts in return and often take the blame for politicians mistakes. To strengthen them their salary has to be increased immediately. I am not justifying the money I pad but just pointing out that in case of policemen there is another side of the story too. Their responsibilities are big and they cannot be treated in the same way (in terms of benefits) as security guards, which is the case today.
