Bribe for police verification

The policeman came to our house in New Delhi, Kalkaji to verify re-issuance of passport details for my son.
After, completing all the formalities and on the point of leaving the flat, the policeman asked for his "fees". To cut a long story short, he left only after being handed over Rs 500. Incidentally, he mentioned that Rs 100 or Rs 200 did not help anyone these days.
