I paid a bribe and i was forced to do so

Reported on June 13, 2011 from Mangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #7410

I was coming down a busy road, was stopped by a cop and asked to park my car(i10) by the side. I am pretty young looking..(i was 20 at the time but i definitely looked 16). First he asked me for my license and papers which i showed him gladly. He then proceeded to tell me that i was using my mobile phone and that was an offense. I had left my phone at home, so i knew that this guy was upto no good. I proceeded to explain to him that i didn't possess my cell at that moment for which he told me not to argue with him, and i was told that i was being extremely rude. He then saw a scratch at the side of my car and told me that i'm a rash driver and i don't deserve to drive on M'lore roads. He then asked me to pay him Rs 500 for my offense which i refused immediately. There was no other traffic authority around whom i could complain to. He said if i didn't pay, he would confiscate my license and i would have to go to the station to collect it. Reluctantly i agreed to pay him, but i didn't have enough money on me. I told him that i had only Rs 250, so he said that much would do. I then asked him for a receipt, for which he told me that it wouldn't be possible to give me one, and if i wanted one, he'd confiscate my license and i would have to collect both my license and the receipt together. I finally, gave him the money, collected my license and got away from there. The memory of this incident is fresh in my mind and every time i see a traffic cop, i feel disgusted.

What's your reaction?
