On NH2 while coming from Allahbad at the overbridge before Lucknow…

Reported on November 12, 2014 from Kanpur , Uttar Pradesh  ι Report #46774

On NH2 while coming from Allahbad at the overbridge before Lucknow turn, seeing the registration no of my vehicle from other state, traffic cops stopped me for paper verification. Serially asked for License, registration, Insurance and pollution certificates. I showed them all serially except PUCC. Since I was not having PUCC certificate they seized my registration and driving license and asked me for a fine fine of rupees 10000/-(Ten thousand) or to get back my DL and Registration from court, which was not possible for me at that time.

I was not carrying this amount and the kid was also ill, they obliged me by taking 1000/- Rs (One thousand) in return of my documents. Though they initially asked for 5000 but finally came down to 1000 and were not ready to come down further since it was diwali time.

I Paid thanks for the generosity and left for my destination.

I still don't know the correct fine and rules about pollution control certificate, I suppose they vary from state to state. Later I collected the coveted certificate by paying Rs 70/- and without any pollution check of the vehicle, found it quite easy. Don't know whether my car was polluting the great city of Kanpur or not but this certificate is surely a great tool in the hands of police for raising money.
So in the name of environment conservation I actually had to increase the pollution of corruption in already polluted Kanpur city.
