I applied for my marriage certificate on 6th August at the Sub-Registrar office, Sembiam at Perambur. For processing my application i was demanded Rs.1500/- by one of the staff there. After submitting the application, i was told to collect my certificate after one month, ie. on 6th September or later. I visited this office on 10th Sept, but i was told that i need to pay Rs.600/- for the sub-registrar to sign the application. When i enquired with the sub-registrar she quoted that the fee is only Rs.60- but i need to pay Rs.600/- to get her signature. I did not have any choice than to pay this sum. However am still asked to come after 3 days to collect my marriage certificate. I did not know that its so expensive to get a marriage certificate in Chennai..!!
