I paid 30,000.00 Indian National Rupees to register my marriage

Reported on March 9, 2012 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #2555

We were told to go to Kanjhawala court to register my marriage. When we got there they told us to go to Rampura court since we live on the other side of Outer Ring Road i.e. towards Income tax colony. When we got in to the office a lady was yelling at a couple and asked the guy to leave and talk to someone who cares and the guy was complaining that he had been there 6 to 8 times to get his marriage registered . At that she replied "Big deal. Everyone does so what if he did too ". So i got that impression that they dont give rat's ********** about ur timing . As I was there only till Dec. 14th I realized that I have to have that certificate with me before that. So I came out and someone told me to go to notary public behind the office and they will ARRANGE everything for me for a price. As soon as i got there the guy introduced me to his typist and after about 30 mins wait my papers were typed and I was forwarded to some other guy whose name was S**** whose office was next to his shop.By the way his shop was right next to an open park where there was a buffalo and some construction going on. He told me that it would cost me 7,000.00 Rupees but as soon as i told him that I am a Canadian citizen he told me to forget that and insisted that I should not mention my real Citizenship status. But I didnt want to lie on an official document so I plainly refused to lie on the document. He called someone that someone called him back in about 20 mins and informed S**** that it would cost me 30,000 since I was a foriegn national . S**** said that I can leave Rupees 25,000.00 on Mr. SDM's table myself as his share is only 5,000.00 rupees . I suddenly remembered the horrific scence inside the office and my time restraints and realised that I have no choice But to pay them Rs. 30,000.00 and I was pleasently surprised that after I paid that amount I got my certificate within 3 days after i started the process and the very day I was there myself with my wife they even forged someone's signature on the document for me.So this is my story.
