Typical grouchy govt. clerk acting high and mighty.
- Stamps and Registration
- Marriage Certificate
- Paid INR 500
My passport expires in a couple of months. I have applied for a new one. To get the passport, I must furnish my marriage certificate. I need the passport urgently, since I may travel in the near future. I had only one day at my disposal to get the marriage certificate. That is why I had to pay a bribe. This does not justify my having paid a bribe. I am feeling very ashamed for being party to the greatest ill that afflicts our country today.
But I could not help but wonder in amazement at the clerk's audacity and the unabashed way in which he was behaving. It was downright rude and obnoxious. It was clear that he wanted money, and thought it was his birthright. I wondered how he can live with himself even after the huge public outcry over corruption, and especially the ********** movement; how he can go home each day, and feel good about himself. It is disgusting to see how low our people have fallen. Only a miracle can save our nation from descending into a lawless, immoral state.
