Asked for a bribe to clear police verification, application stuck for a month

Reported on April 30, 2018 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #181983

Officer: Manjunath
Location: Konankunte Police Station, Bangalore
I had applied for a new passport about a month back. The process at the seva kendra went smooth apart from the long waiting time. Surprisingly, the verification officer came in a couple of days, and called me. He came to my house and collected all the documents and photos. Throughout the process, he was very arrogant, despite being just a junior constable. While leaving, he enquired for "tea-coffee" money, which I said I didn't have. He left begrudgingly.

While it usually takes no more than 7-8 days, its been close to a month, and my application status still says police verification pending. I hate to be in a country where this is the norm. I wish I could do something to change this. For now, I've taken the pledge to never vote for any of the conventional political parties, for any "greater good". Any new, experimental party that doesn't demean it's citizen gets my vote, even if I'm the only one.

What's your reaction?
