Festive season rates for parking a car during season time
I went to Kanyakumari , to visit Vivekananda Rock yesterday, with my family. We were travelling in a private vehicle, (a ********** Ertiga). On reaching the turning towards the parking lot, we saw two plain clothes parking attendants jump up. They approached the vehicle with the parking tickets and asked for the fee. We could see a wall and sign board painted with the parking rates clearly mentioned:
Tourist rates for Cars,Jeeps :20
Tempo,Vans: 25
Tourist buses:50
We were about to hand over 20/- for this parking ticket, when these folks kind of demanded 50/- saying that it is the "Season charge" . They said that this is season time, and the rates are double.
We denied saying our vehicle is clearly a car/jeep, and asked for a receipt, (or the parking slip) , and he sheepishly handed us a single token, which clearly mentioned the cost as 20. When we said we will NOT pay extra, and asked them to show us the notice where the SEASON RATES are mentioned as double, they said they would not let us take the vehicle down.
Finally, he tried pleading saying that the remaining 25/- would go from his salary.
This is sad, and insulting , trying to fleece people - it is daylight robbery!
We told them, if you want we will pay 20/- for a ticket , else we are not paying, paid 20/- and drove off.
Also, another board, further down the road mentions that these parking rates are for "Tourist Vehicles" , which I assume are hired taxi's ; and not applicable for Private vehicles!
