Chennai Port - Pride and Bribe!!

• Customs, Excise and Service Tax
• Customs Clearance of Import Shipment
• Paid INR 20,000

My wife and to children recently moved to Bangalore. We sent personal effect Ship cargo during mid of 2012. After 2 months, the consignment reached Chennai Port Customs and we were contacted with documents for clearance and send to Bangalore warehouse. Agent mentioned to us that we need to pay the some penalty as the goods were in customs for sometime and Rs10,000 for the customs officer in MCD department. I was so annoyed and somehow managed to reach out to one lady officer in the relevant department. She has taken all information from me and the next day I heard from agent that the officer called him and shouted. It's nearly 6 months now, still we are struggling to release the personal effect cargo from the chennai customs. And the good news is, the customs officer doubled his bribe from Rs 10,000 to Rs.20,000 now. If you want your items, pay us get them, otherwise we will be auctioning them. I am an helpless person knocked a wrong door to ask for help. The agent mentioned, 'we are not getting any money, we will give you the bills for our charges. Because of Customs, those can keep their wife and daughter in dirty business too, all they need is money!'. We arranged the money now and going to feed the beasts. I can only pray to God to bring changes in customs department..

I do not want my story to be sent to any customs related officers..
