3 friends and I rented scooters in Arpora. We drove from Arpora to Old Goa whilst near Panaji some highway police in a SUV with registration number GA07G0253 pulled us over. They immediately began threatening to take us to court and jail when we didn't have international driving permits but only foreign driver's licenses. The police officer in the passenger seat said the fine was 3000 rupees but because it was republic day he would make it 1200. After about 30 seconds he told us that because we had taken long to give him the money the fine was now 2000 rupees per bike. He said if we didn't pay him he would impound the bike and arrest us. My friend paid him 4000 rupees and he drove away. It was very obviously a bribe. I hope he can be investigated and punished.
