Frankly Maharasthra is not at all a friendly state and not comfortable for non-marathis. Also driving a personal vehicle from other state is a nightmare even after following all laws.
I brought my bike (RJ-Jaipur reg.) from Delhi on 19th Dec 2014 and as per law I can drive free for first month. Still as I am a law abiding citizen, on 10Jan 2015 I went to pay road tax to PUNE RTO. As office was closed I could only manage to submit my form to an agent and as still 9 days were left in 1 month completion I was sure that on Monday I will be able to pay the tax. Just outside the RTO office a traffic police constable stopped me and asked for papers. I showed him all originals and also th proof that my bike is less than a month in the city and I came here to pay the tax. When he didnt found any flaws in documents, he took me to his senior officer (Mahinder Shinde) who was sitting in a shelter like a king all strecthed and poor people were touching his feet and begging for release without doing any crime. I told them that I know the law and also it has been confirmed senior traffic officials and RTO officer that 1 month time period is there. But bluntly he disregarded this fact and law and threatened me to seize my bike and come to court. His statement "Hum koi aisa rule nahi jaante... hamare yahan ye nahi chalta... ". Then he asked me about NOC. to which I again had to teach him the rule and law that to pay road tax and temp stay I do not need any NOC. Only for permenant stay and re-registration / change of reg no. I need NOC from prev RTO. This also he denied and ignored and said such things do not happen. These bastards can go to any extent to rob people. He started demnading 1200. Later on came to 700, then 500 then 300.
Clearly these days more than theives and robberers these police guys and official people are threat to society. I have been driving my Jaipur registered bike from last 5 years in 4 different states and never had any problem. Infact the police there them selves admit that due to natire of my job I have to keep on changing states and cities and they have no issues with other state vehicle as long as they donot break any law.
I was going to pay road tax and there only without any solid reason police harassed and robbed me.
