Ichalkaranji is a town in kolhapur district known for textiles. My brother had to undergo police verification as is mandatory for issuance of passport. He was asked for under the table for verifying the documents. As he had to verify for passports for more than one person apart from him he negotiated and finally paid Rs 1500 to Mr. Salap ( don't remember his first name) in Shivaji nagar police station of Ichalkaranji.
He was also said that if he did not pay the money his documents will be rejected for one reason or another and once rejected re-application for passport gets more difficult.
