Paid bribe to avoid hassle in passport verification

Because of my father's many transfers during job, I had changed my place of studies many times. After finishing my class 10, I went to Bhubaneswar for my +2 and engineering. When I applied for passport, it was stuck in police verification for quite long time. It was stuck until my father paid the bribe. Even in our village, it is like a custom to pay bribe to avoid hassles and Policemen behave as if they are doing us a favor even after taking money. How shameful.
