Victimized to pay bribe
I declared to the customs officer at the Red channel at the Bangalore International Airport that I was bringing in 50 gms of Gold bar with engraved seal numbers and was prepared to pay the official customs duty and wanted a receipt for it. First the customs officer said that I had to pay in foreign currency, I agreed. Then he asked me if I am an NRI, I said, Yes.Then he asked when did I leave India, I said it was many years ago. Then he consulted another officer and the other officer asked me when was the last time I had visited India. I replied, that I was in India for 2 weeks around 6 months ago. To this the officer replied that this he had to check with his supervisor. I was told to wait until his supervisor comes back and it could be quite late by the time his supervisor comes back. I said I'm tired and I cannot wait for a long time. To this the officer asked me to drop half of the offifical duty on the table and then walk away.
