New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) The CBI Saturday said its director, Ranjit Sinha, was "quoted unfairly" and "out of context" in a newspaper interview related to the Ishrat Jahan case chargesheet.

"Queries have been received from various sections of the media regarding quote of director CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) published in a national daily today (Saturday) in connection with the investigation in an alleged encounter of Ishrat Jahan and three others," the CBI said in a statement.

"It is clarified that director has been quoted unfairly and completely out of context. CBI is an impartial and an apolitical organisation. In the Ishrat Jahan case, CBI has done a fair, thorough and professional investigation to the best of its ability," it added.

Sinha, in an interview to the Economic Times, said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government would have been happy if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah was named an accused in the Ishrat Jahan case chargesheet.

Meanwhile, the BJP attacked the Congress and said it was targeting its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi through the CBI.
