Charge sheet filed against BSP MP in maid torture case

New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS) Delhi Police Saturday filed a charge sheet in a court here against BSP MP Dhananjay Singh and his wife in connection with maid torture case leading to her death.

Singh, who represents Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur constituency, and his wife were charged under various sections dealing with destruction of evidence and bonded labour.

Police had also charge sheeted Singh for abetment to murder and on other various charges.

The charge sheet was filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Dheeraj Mittal. The court has fixed the matter for Feb 4 for further hearing.

Singh's wife Jagriti, a dental surgeon at a government hospital, was charge sheeted under various section dealing with murder, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and other various charges as well.

Singh and his wife are in jail after they were arrested in November last year in connection with their maid's torture and murder case.

Meanwhile another court took cognisance of chargesheet filed against Singh for allegedly repeatedly raping a 42-year-old married railway employee for nearly four years.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sonu Agnihotri took cognisance of charges under various section of Indian Penal Code including 376 (2) (k) (being a public service repeatedly raping a same woman) and listed the matter for Feb 6 for further hearing.

Singh was charged under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 377 (unnatural offence), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Police said Singh had repeatedly raped the woman between July 2005 to March 2009.
