Kohima, July 21 (IANS) Security forces on Tuesday gunned down an NSCN-K militant in the jungles of Puliebadze mountain near here in Nagaland, an official said.

A huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered, said an Indian Army spokesman.

Militants of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang, who had set up a camp in the jungles, fired at the security forces who were on patrol.

The security forces retaliated, and one militant was killed in the exchange of fire.

A search operation yielded one 9mm sub-machine carbine, one .32mm pistol, four gun and pistol magazines, 81 rounds of ammunition, three grenades, two improvised explosive devices and two military grade anti-tank mines, the spokesman said.

"The militant camp indicated that they meant to carry out terror activities in Kohima and adjoining areas. The quantum and type of explosives recovered is sufficient to carry out large-scale damage to life and property," he said.

The NSCN-K abrogated from the ceasefire with the government of India in March. On June 4, the outfit ambushed an Indian Army convoy in Chandel in Manipur killing 18 soldiers.
