Shillong, July 31 (IANS) A legislator in Meghalaya on Friday has written to the state authorities alleging that Pakistani flags were spotted in a locality here in this state capital.

In a letter to East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner P.S. Dkhar, Opposition Hill State People's Democratic Party legislator Ardent Miller said he had spotted Pakistani flags at Them Mawbah area while he was passing through the area on Thursday.

"I failed to understand as to how Pakistani flags are allowed to be displayed in the open. This is inexcusable and an open insult to the people of Meghalaya in particular and all Indians in general," he stated.

Demanding immediate investigation and verification to find out those who were behind such illegal activity, the legislator said stringent action should also be taken against house owners who seem to be in connivance with such elements by allowing their buildings to be used for such purpose.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya police officials said a probe into the alleged display of the Pakistani flags at Them Mawbah was on.

"We are conducting an inquiry into the alleged displaying of Pakistani flags following the complaint lodged to the deputy commissioner and we would surely take action if the allegations are found to be true," a police official said.
