Reported on August 9, 2013 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #35215

On the 12 th of July, I went to collect the forms to get my Aadhar Number and card issued. Decided to get it done at the local post office, for the sake of convenience.
They provided me with the forms and gave me the "Post Office Savings Bank Form" as well. When I inquired, "why is this required?", the reply given that its is a necessity to have a bank account linked to the card. I told them that I already have a bank account in the city itself and can just link the same. To which I was told, that "No, the Post Office account has to be linked".
I decided to return the next day after getting copies of my photo and passport. On the way back home, I gave a call to my Dad, who has already completed all the formalities for himself and the rest of the family. In fact he had also done it for the work force in his organization and opened the doors to all outsiders during the 3 weeks that the team from Aadhar made camp within his company's premises. They covered over 2500 people in that time. He told me that "It is a relatively simple process and all I need to have is my Passport, and the bank IIFC code and the Account No. "
Armed with this knowledge, I returned and spoke to the officer at the post office who had provided me with the conflicting statement. When I told her that it was not required and quoted that "I spoke to people at the Aadhar Office", she meekly agreed and asked me to return with the filled form tomorrow.
As I write this, I think to myself, what else do other people face with the lack of complete knowledge.

As a recommendation, providing people with complete information and making it mandatory for the centers to display the information will go a long way in curbing people taking undue advantage. Interestingly this information is provided on the form itself. For people who are not fluent in the language or are afraid of filling such forms in general, becomes a challenge to them.
