Bribe asked in terms of office expenses

Reported on October 30, 2013 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #37029

We had to get our flat registered located in OMBR Lyt and had to get it done at the sub-registrar office, Banaswadi. Both me and my husband were reluctant in paying bribe and we were already warned about the Banaswadi office being one of the most corrupt from the franking guy to the sub registrar himself would demand a hefty bribe. My husband decided to call the Lokayukta guys to seek their advice regarding going about this. A lady at the lokayukta office answered the call and told us to send her the name and contact number of tat Sub-Registrar if he demanded bribe. After getting the DD's and all the required documents ready we entered the office and directly met the Sub-Registrar asking him the procedure for property registration, he directed us to a clerk who mentioned the government value of the place and the price we were paying. Then the photography session along with feeding the data in their system after which the DD's were verified and then sent for signature from the Sub-registrar. The clerk saw us with a pity face more or less asking us to give him something, we met the registrar and by then the clerk had told him that we hadn't paid him anything and we were waiting for the official to react he then said move their papers they came inn directly. The papers were moved to the scanning section and after that their was another clerk infact I wouldn say clerk I would call him a middleman between the officer and the purchaser he came upto us before handing over the papers asking us to give something for OFFICE EXPENSES my husband immediately went to the officer and asked him Sir he is asking for some office expense can you please explain what are those expenses that moment of the officers reaction was worth capturing he was all mum for few seconds and then said give them the papers its ok they came inn directly. Me and my hubby were so happy that we did not pay hefty bribe. So my advice to people who want to register their properties is approach the officer directly and not an agent, these people are habituated of public paying them and now its a disease nobody wants to let go. Its our right to register nobody can stop us from doing it they can only delay the process so lets be wise.
