Bribe with Traveler's Cheque
I was living in the USA and went to India for a visit in 1999. I had a slightly bent Indian passport with couple of watermarks. I traveled with that passport from USA to Singapore and to India. On the day of my return I went to Bangalore airport, checked in my bags and went through immigration counter. The immigration "officer" said my passport is not good and I needed to get a new passport before I can leave the country. I said, I traveled with the same passport from USA and he can see the immigration stamps from USA and Singapore also. He did not budge a little and pulled me aside from the queue. Almost everyone went through the counter and I was the last one. It was almost time for final call to boarding. Then he came to me and said how much I can give him. I did not have any money since I finished spending the last rupee and I was going to withdraw some money in dollars when I landed in USA. This guy would not let me go. Then I had an idea. I had a $50 traveler's cheque that I asked himwhether he was willing to take. That stupid guy did not have a clue on what a traveler's cheque is and he accepted it. I signed it and gave it to him and he let me go on my way to singapore flight. I landed in Sinapore and called American Express toll free number and reported that I lost the traveler's cheque in bangalore airport. I do not know if he tried to encash it or not, but sure hope he got into trouble....I got my money back when I landed in San *******
