Custom Officer at ********** Int airport
Hi, This is a funny incident. On my return trip from Singapore (Trade exhibition). I was walking through the Green channel..An officer stopped me & asked to put my suitcase on the scanner..Which I did..Not finding anything & hungry to make some money off me..He asked me a a number of questions i.e the purpose of my short visit to Sing..Susupecting me to be a courier or that sort..I answered to the point..Then he looked at my cabin baggage..That had 2 bottles of Alcohol (for my dad & brother in law), some chocolates 4 my sisters kids ( I was single then) & I also had an Acoustic Guitar strapped on my back..(This was free I won in a Lucky-draw with a soft nylon case). This guy tell me I will have to pay customs duty for what I am carrying..I said..2 bottles are allowed. Cholcolates in that qty are exempt & this is a wodden guitar of very low value..I also insisted on seeing the Customs notification handbook..So he tells me I would have to pay a fine.. I refused..I said didn't even have money to pay any fine..He said I could leave the stuff there go home & get the money..I Said I would 1st empty the alcohol bottles in the toilet then go home & return back..& I sat on the trolley..swinging my legs..it went on for about 20 minutes..But then he realised that I was ruining his prospects of exctracting money from the labourers coming from the Gulf..basically uneducated guys who R ignorant & scared to even question them..then he comes..Tells me to close my suitcase pack everything & leave.. I exited from the airport without paying a single rupee...Jubilant..not falling to corruption..V need to be ethically clean, have integrity, Have patient & never give up..
