ever since the additional commissioner of traffic - Mr ******* ********** said veichles should not be stopped unnecessarily the frequency of annoyances where police stopped people had reduced but they seem to be coming up with new and ingenious ways to fleece money and work around the law.
After a hard day's work i was returning home on my motor bike at 2.30 AM in the morning when i was stopped by a policeman at benniganahalli gate(bangalore), the reason given was that since there were police barricades at the place veichles had to slow down which i had done.in fact if one didn't slow down the person would surely crash into the barricades and i am pretty sure i was riding at less than 40 k/hr but this didn't stop our loyal policemen from stopping on the pretext of speeding and asking for driving license and documents.
When i protested and asked what crime i had done the policeman got quite unruly and threatened me saying i would not get up ever and abused me in in front of 4 other cops.
Although they let me off saying this was the first and last warning the way all 4 cops ganged up on me really made me worry.What was more they pretty much made me agree to whatever they were saying.It was a classic case of police coercion.I had to agree to everything because they said they would take my bike and release it only after i paid some fine in the court but i knew if i let my bike go to them i wouldn't see it back in the same condition.
As i was about leave the scene i heard one of policeman say that if i had said anything against them i would have regretted it for the rest of my life.believe me i was scared for my life. Police are supposed to protect people aren't they not threaten to silence them forever!!!!
I think this time they wanted to teach me a lesson about police power and did not take any bribe but this incident has got me really worried and i don't think i will travel by that road again.I am afraid if i take this any further the police ********** trace me and probably hurt me in every way they can.But since the incident i am really shook up and cannot forget it so that is why i am posting this as anonymous user.
I dont know if there ever will come a day when our country will be free from corruption but right now that dream seems far far away.
