Me and My Wife Were Shocked When the Police Woman Demanded Rs 1000 !
This happened in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. We had applied for Passports. There was a call from a person one day asking us to report to the Sector-6 Police Station in connection with the PP application. When we reached, a policewoman approached us and informed us that she had the verification files with her and she would forward it to the concerned policestation, ie the one at Supela in time provided we pay her Rs 500/- each. If we did not pay, she would sent it back to the PP office with some excuse. She was kind enough to tell us the distribution of the money she had to make to all those concerned there. In fact, she was only the collection agent, she explained. She also told us that we should also give some money to the writer at the concerned police station ! Another Rs.500/- would be enough. That was her advice.
She also told that they had to pay a good amount to the higher ups for keeping them posted in such police stations with good potential for money collection. So all these are just service charges !
One thing I had to admit. If you pay this they are indeed very decent and courteous. It is any one's guess how much these people actually make!
