Please give 20 rupees for cool drink
In 1999, I just moved from Hyderabad to Chennai. I did not know that there were no free lefts in Chennai, unless there is a sign which says "free left". I took a turn in one signal near Mylapore. There were a group of police standing there. I pleaded with them ignorance of law. They obviously said "Ignorantia juris non excusat" in Tamil + English. :)
They asked for Rs 50/- I said fine with the fine, please give me a receipt. They said it would be Rs 100/- then and were advising against it. I was adamant that I need a receipt. Then one police advised me how much is a salary of a police man and how they need bribes and said "Please give 20 rupees for a cool drink". I did feel pity, but did no relent. Paid Rs100/- and left happily with a receipt, which I saved for many days as a memory :)
