Porter and supervisor asking for bribe to load my scooter
This is more than 20 years back, when I used to live in India. At that time I was moving from Mumbai to Bangalore, and had made all payments to the railways to load my scooter, and had prepared it for shipment. But the railway staff wanted me to "take care" of them , in order to load my scooter, by paying them about Rs. 100. ( a handsome money those days. ( about 3000 Rs. now??) I refused & told them " Look you are a govt servant, & you are already paid by the government to do your job. I am not going to pay any money. If you want to load it fine, otherwise I will get my scooter anyway , I have proof of having delivered it to the railways, & will lodge a complaint in case my scooter does not get delivered. " Being Bombayites, they were not so brazen ( as it would have been in Bangalore) I got my scooter, in a timely way, no bribe was paid. I have been out of India since mid 90's??. Phir bhi dil hai hindustAni!! Unless people stand up to it and refuse to pay bribes, there is no hope for any solution
