TC expects a bribe to provide a seat
I was traveling from hyd to chennai. It was on a weekday. I didn't have a ticket. I paid the ticket price + fine [ double the actual price] in SEC railway station to officials, to board reservation compartment. There were quite a few seats available for use, due to people not boarding the train. I spoke to the TC to assign a seat if there is one available, he told me that he would look into once he finishes checking the compartment. I waited till 12 AM in the morning, only to be told in the end that no seats are available. But all through I saw a number of people, "having just a general compartment ticket" paying paltry sums like 100/150 to TC, and he was able to provide them with a berth/seat. At one point, he took me aside, in lieu of providing me a seat, and indicated to me in every possible way to pay a bribe and get a seat. but I didn't. and it cost me a nights sleep and discomfort.
