The way I tackled a shameless and corrupt lady in a responsible position
Office: Chamarajapet
Purpose: Had to get a NOC stamp on my dad's property for getting an education loan.
Story: I wonder when the Govt. of India realizes the need for it to mandate all government offices to put up a fee chart for various purposes. Anyways, a lady officer holding a responsible position in that office told me that the fees was 300 rupees. I had done my homework before and had checked out on a govt. website that the fees for NOC was 200 rupees. I protested as I had proof. The lady raised her voice and so did I. People gathered around us in no time. She started abusing me in foul language and I started recoding every bit of it on my mobile phone. She became more violent and almost threw the paper-weight at me, if not for one of her colleagues.
I promised her that it was not over and took that recording over to the director of that office, showed him the way people are treated in his office. He heard my story with interest, pacified me, got my documents, verified them and stamped them himself after collecting the exact fees of 200 rupees. I sincerely thanked him and left his office.
On my way back, I purposely exited in front of that lady and told her that the documents have been stamped and I had no need of her. I went on to say if she speaks even one word more, I would submit my recording to the media (my sister works at a reputed news channel). She snarled at me and hissed something under her breath, but she was scared to go any further. I smiled and as I walked out with my head held high, I could imagine that lady would have wanted to kill herself for behaving that way and I'm sure she would think twice before repeating such an act in the future.
