It is not necessary to have both your names on the bill. Whenever you use a document for your address proof with someone else&rsquo;s name on it, they must&nbsp; give in writing his/her relationship with you for it to be valid. &nbsp;</p>
<p>
In case of death, you will have to show proof that the deceased person was your spouse.</p>

Dear Raghu, thank you for this helpfull site ! I approached the BESCOM office in Anekal today to get the name of my wife corrected on the bill. At the same time I made a written request to add my name on the bill or mention Mr & Mrs. To this the agent replied that the meter could be on only name, even though I produced proof of property ownership. Earlier I lived in Europe and am used to the bill bearing the name of the couple. Above all, I need such a document as address proof and avoid future administrative hassles in case of the death of any one of us. Could you please advise me on this particular subject.
