Dear Abhishek,



I do not think they would have cancelled your passport. Corrupt officials make use of false threats only to squeeze some bribe out of the citizens. They believe that people would fear them as they are n a position to cause them harm. Don't worry. However, if youare cncerned about your passport status, I would suggest that you make a written complaint about this case to the vigilance authorities mentioned in the website. Please also file an RTI application with the Passport office to find out what has happened to your application. Please mention to the police that you know your rights and that you will complain to higher authorities if they demand a bribe. There are several instances reported in our -I didnt pay a bribe section where citizens have successfully resisted demands for bribes for the issue of passports and for the police verification. It is only if we stand up and be firm about not paying a bribe, that things will change. If you read the I didn't pay bribes section, you will see many cases where people have successfully resisted paying a bribe to the police for demanding bribes for police verification.

Hi Raghu, Last year i got my passport reissued.The passport was delivered to my door step.I had changed my residence twice in one year.After i got my passport,i get a call from the police station asking me to come there for verification.I had to pay Rs300 as verification charges.A few days later i got a call from the police station where i had resided previously asking me to come there again for verification.I told the policeman that i have already received my passport and i wont come.He then threatened me saying that he would cancel my passport.I told him to do whatever he wants.After that i never got a call.I just wonder,since i didn't go to the police station,would my passport have been cancelled.Is there any way to find out the status of my passport?
