Whenever a government servant dies while still in service, the facility of compassionate appointment is available for a child, or near relative of the official concerned, in accordance with certain rules. The appointments are not to the same level as the official concerned, but is modulated by the qualification of the relative concerned. For example, the child of a police officer who dies in service will not automatically succeed to the post of his parent!
