Reported on January 27, 2011 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #33844

You need not file any petition to any senior officer. Filing an RTI is simple.

  • You download Form A of section 6(1) and 7(1) of the RTI Act of 2005.

  • You need to give in the following details in the form:

  • Name and address of the Applicant.

  • The information that you are filing the RTI for.

  • The name and address of the Public Information officer of the department you wish to seek the information from.

  • Enclose the application with Rs.10 in the form of  DD, Money Order, Postal Order or affixing Court fee Stamp.

  • Make sure you get a letter of acknowledgement once your application is accepted by the officer of the concerned department.

Here is a site which will provide all the information you need regarding the RTI Act. http://www.righttoinformation.org/faqs.asp.

The government websites which are available online currently provide very basic information. Some websites, however, like the Karnataka RTO or the BBMP websites, do provide a lot of information on the site but, they lack visual appeal and also are difficult to navigate. The information is embedded deep within the website and the citizen is unable to trace the information that he is seeking. Also, the government officials are wary about putting up any information online since people can very well hold them accountable to that.  We hope that with the online media slowly gaining more popularity than the traditional,  government would exploiting this medium to the best of its abilities.
