How much should we pay for temporary connection for electricity

Reported on September 6, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka ι Report #34044

Please see the FAQs in respect of Electricity connections. In addition, a colleague also called the helpline of the BESCOM at - 18004252627 and sought for the details. This also became a useful test for us to test the usefulness and the efficacy of the BESCOM helpline. On the mention of a particular area, the helpline promptly gave the mobile number of the Junior Engineer concerned - a good sign. The JE, (his number is 9448810310) a gentleman named Venkataraman gave the following information:

If the building is a new one, one has to enclose with the application all the land related documents, such as the Khata certificate, the latest tax paid receipt and the new construction plan.

If the building is an old one, one has to show proof of surrendered meters, copy of endorsement by the BESCOM office & all ownership & land documents

These papers have to be submitted in the BESCOM office for the sanction of the temorary connection.

An interesting additional information is that BESCOM plans to introduce prepaid meters, where all that the consumer has to do is install one alond with a special card (similar to mobile phone SIM cards) and charge it using recharge coupons issued by Bescom through various vendors. However, this idea is still at a concept stage.
