Reported on April 14, 2014 from New Delhi , Delhi  ι Report #40508

I am a foreign citizen that are married to and Indian women. I want to obtain a Person of Indian Origin card, for different reasons I can not get it in my own country. There fore I plan to apply in Delhi. I am worried that the officer their will refuse until I pay a bribe.
My worries are not only due to the general bribery in India, but also, I was born in Sri Lanka (I don't live there any more). The rules are a little bit unclear, they state that a person of Sri Lankan origin can NOT obtain a PIO card IF he/she applies on the basis of having a parent that are Indian. However, as I understand it, if I apply based on having an Indian spouse, the Sri Lankan origin does not matter. The problem is that from stories I read online, even spouses are being refused an PIO card due to their Sri Lankan origin. I am pretty sure that this is due to not offering bribes, and I worry that the same will happen to me. My question is, are there a path to PIO card for people of Sri Lankan origin (I am not a Sri Lankan citizen, but rather a european citizen) and are the stories online just cases of people not paying bribes?

Thanks,
Larry
