Reported on November 26, 2013 from Jamnagar , Gujarat  ι Report #38002

I am from Kolkata, now a tenant in a rented house in Jamnagar.

Landlord and me entered the first Tenancy Agreement before a Notary Public and I stayed in said rented house between November 2012 and July 2013 when we submitted a prescribed form, copies of our Agreement has been stamped by the police station as a mark of Verification. After said stamping, the concerned PS demanded Rs 300 as bribe from my landlord, when my landlord made me to pay Rs 150, he paid Rs 100 to said PS. On the expiry of the agreement, I have returned to Kolkata.

However, I have re-entered another tenancy agreement with same landlord for renting same premises since 15th October 2013 for the next six months. Recently the landlord asked me to provide a photo, copy of my identity - I agreed as he assured that I do not need to go to the police station as we did earlier. But today he asked me to visit the police station and to get prepared with some bribe we experienced last time.

My questions (i) do I really have go to said police station again when I have already got verified (ii) Do I have to pay a bribe again as my landlord informed? Does not my landlord appear to be so authoritative?
