I was challaned Rs 200 for driving at 86 kmph inadvertantly on a down slope on 80 kmph lane. Police seems to have selected the down slope area intentionally to take advantage of the inadvertant speed

Reported on October 23, 2010 from Bangalore , Karnataka ι Report #33974

To drive a vehicle dangerously at high speed, is an offence under Section 184 (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act and is punishable at Rs. 200 for two/three wheelers and Rs. 300 for four/six wheelers. It is a common occurrence for police to frequent places where overspeeding is common; in fact this happens abroad too, so much so that courts have said that it is legal for vehicle owners to fit radar detectors to their cars, to ensure that they don't break the speed limit when speed radars are in the vicinity. The best way to avoid this is to drive slowly, well within the limit.

Of course, sadly, most police seem to think that vehicles with outstation registration numbers are easy targets for fining. We are becoming an increasingly parochial society in India, in spite of all our empty talk about national integration.
