Reported on March 23, 2015 from Chittaurgarh , Rajasthan  ι Report #55055

Presently the rule states that a vehicle (personal) registered in one state cannot be driven in another state with re-payment of Road Tax. There is a grace period of 0 days in West Bengal to 11 months in Karnataka, but beyond which one has to re-pay the road tax.
My argument is :
1. Personal vehicles are for personal use by an Indian Resident. Once road tax is paid, he should be allowed to take his vehicle anywhere in India for any period of time. He should be allowed to change the address for communication without any charges.
2. Even if the person wants to pay road tax to the state where he has migrated, it requires for a NOC from the purchased state. Now most of the cars are purchased on finance or hypothecated to banks who have financed the vehicle. Till the time all installments are paid, the RTO will not issue a NOC....Now what to do.

So it is prayed that for personal vehicles we should have one tax payable at the time of purchasing the vehicle which should be valid all over India.
or
The vehicle owner should have the facility to pay temporary road tax in 6 monthly brackets depending upon his tenure of stay in the other state.

Thanks
Deepak
