Dear Debprasad,

The peril of corruption is unfortunately deep rooted in our system. Moreover, it is a way of life an average Indian has now come to accept. Furthermore, we dont have stringent anti-corruption laws to bring the corrupt to book. But even as individuals, we still pay bribes because, we have not changed our mindsets; because our body language is the same, we go to a government office looking nervous; we behave submissively. Because we still think that the government will harm us in some way. Because we do not do the simplest homework before going to any government office. And because, for many of us, we will happily pull out money from our pocket to bribe people, sometimes even before they ask us.

As you know currently there are activists who have drafted a Jan Lokpal bill and want it passed. But we believe that Lok pal bill is not the only way to end corruption. We need to have stricter anti-corruption laws. Hence, we have also started the 'Bribe Bandh' campaign get One million signatures from citizens to urge th government of India to ratify the UN Convention Against Corruption. India is one of the only 14 countries to have not ratified the convention. We hope that this movement will take the nation a step further in eradicating the menace of corruption in our country. Do support and spread the word to as many as you can. http://ipaidabribe.com/sforms/un_convention

Many RTO offices set up helpdesks, but quite often, after some time, they fail to function and are taken over by agents. One way to beat the system is to go to the RTOs office with their own Citizens charter, which you can download from their website. This document contains specific commitments to complete tasks within a specified period of time. Let us see how many officials will disregard their own departments citizens charter! We can start by making an effort individually to resist bribes. We at ipaidabribe.com have drafted 10 commandments on how to resist paying bribes. They are available for download on our site http://ipaidabribe.com/downloads/ipab_tencommandments.pdf

Raghu
