Reported on August 14, 2016 from Kalyan , Maharashtra  ι Report #117096

We are purchasing a new car. As a part of the registration of the car, we have been asked to provide documents for address proof. The dealer has asked us to compulsarily provide the electricity bill. Here in lies the issue. The address on the bill, more specifically, the room number is wrongfully written as C26 instead of 602. C26 was what our flat was named during the construction stage. We started getting bills by that address. Over the years, for 12 years to be exact this was never an issue. However, this time round, the dealer says that the Kalyan RTO will only accept the Electricity Bill as a valid address proof, which means all the other so called 'government documents' like the aadhar card, ration card the PAN card and believe it or not, the Driving License, provided by the RTO themselves, are not considered as valid address proofs. We were appalled at this. Is this true? Is the Electricity Bill the only true proof of address?
