Why would the RTA guy, who stopped me to verify my 2-Wheeler documents,…

Reported on November 8, 2013 from Hyderabad , Telangana  ι Report #37149

Why would the RTA guy, who stopped me to verify my 2-Wheeler documents, needs an Bike-Insurance ? Is it a mandatory document that I should be having all the time.

I understand that,
- one should carry his Driving License to prove his Road sense.
- he has to carry the RC to prove the bike is registered with the Govt.
- he should carry the Pollution Check to confirm his vehicle passes pollution limits

And now, about the Insurance, If I have my bike insured, if some accident/theft happens I can claim the insurance. It would be easy for me sell it to somebody if I carry the insurance docs.

But, this should NOT be a mandate ( I don't even know, whether it is a mandate).
If you have it, and something happens, you can claim. You don't have it, you can't. thats it.

It should be similar to we buying Regulators for our electronic goods. If you have the Regulator, you electric item is safe from accidents (atleast it tries to prevent). If not, that's up to you.

Is there any rule in RTA guidelines that, a 2-wheeler should have an insurance all the time??

Thanks,
Vaseem.
