The incident happened when I went with my dad to collect a 23 year old law degree or its whereabouts because my dad did not bother to collect his degree in the past 23 years.
The memory in his mind was so remote that he did not remember weather he had finished the degree of not, but on my insistence we went to University of Delhi main office in north campus.
The procedure seemed to be difficult and we expected lots of red-tapism but we wanted to venture into the unknown and get the degree since my dad retired and practicing law would have been an ideal past time.
To our surprise it was not what we expected. We were told to go to the law faculty office cleark. After 5 mins he saw us and was very respectful. He saw the old records but could not find anything and he suggested for us to chase the quest for degree in examination office where original marked papers and mark sheet were kept.
we went on to find that office which is basically a vault. There also the clerk, bit amused, astonished but respectful went into the vault and after 30 mins got original hand written papers , written in original exam by my dad 23 years back and proudly said " if you request 100 year old paper we will find it and give it to you". He put on the results onto official transcript, signed it and told us to take the document to law faculty clerk.
On arrival to law faculty office , the official saw the results, got the transcript no. and the had a relook at the records, found the whereabouts of the 23 year old original degree, which was at ARSD college in south campus, the original college where dad attended classes and gave us a form to fill it and take it to ARSD college and get the degree in 3 working days.
To our amazement , the overall process was quite simple and smooth even though the short coming was on our part.
not even a single cent of bribe was paid and overall process was quite rewarding and pleasurable.
Me and my Dad had very good experience with working of Delhi University main office and were amazed to see the overall quality of record keeping.
