Efficient, friendly and honest police verification
I used the online system to apply for renewal of my passport. Being new to Bangalore, I awaited the policeman's verification visit with some trepidation. I need not have worried; the gentleman who came home (and gentleman he definitely was!) from the Amruthahalli station was very polite, curteous and efficient. Out of common courtesy, we offered him a cup of tea. He politely declined. Even the offer of a glass of water was turned down. Seeing that we were not Bangaloreans or Kannadigas, he took pains to speak to us in English and Hindi. He was home for all of 20 minutes, and at no point during the visit did he give even the slightest indication that some 'padding' was expected from us. Six days later, my passport was delivered home.
I wish I could recall the young man's name to be able to praise him publicly, but it eludes me. Suffice to say, after having had my share of bad cop behaviour in the seven years that I was in Delhi, this experience has helped restore my ********** somewhat.
