I urgently needed my name on my in laws ration card to procure my passport. Ordinarily I hate the idea of giving/ taking bribes. For the first time I realised that since I needed my passport urgently, and the RPO would not move ahead without my name on the relevant ration card (despite MTNL bill proof in my husbands name), I would have to pay a price and get the job done in 7 days as opposed to unlimited months. In June 2010, Times reported that the ration card is not considered as proof of address.
