I was told that the spelling on my actual school matriculation certification does NOT match the name as filled on the passport application form. Then, thereafter, as he asked us for money, we paid the said amount to the said local intelligence officers. And, was asked to submit an Affidavit stating the correct spelling of my name. Thereafter, all being done my application was processed. Then, came the local police verification part (after 2 months went by). Two constables from the nearby ********** Nagar police station (GHAZIABAD, U.P.) came on their bike (some DL7S no.) and said that they need Rs.1000 each for them to file a proper report for my passport to get processed. What else we could do. We paid them the said amount and then, the passport came after 2 more months. So, moral of the story : even after you pay bribe things are NOT so smooth. Forget about the things being smooth without a bribe. So, enjoy paying or not paying bribe for now.
