I am currently an NRI residing in KSA. When it came for issue of passport of my mother, the Regional Passport Office sat on the same for 2 months without either accepting the Application or rejecting it and I had to call my entire family to KSA. At the end, when I used known person to talk to concerned officials in passport dept, they stated that there is no possibility of police verification because my mother has a birth place which is in some other city and hence it is difficult to issue the passport and when asked openly what they expect, he stated Rs 15,000/- and agreed for Rs 7500/- finally and you will not believe, that the passport was hand delivered the very next day. The height part was that there was no issue in any of the documents submitted with the application.
I did not like the instance of payment of bribe to him for doing his duty but in India, as a citizen, you have to pay for everything. Nothing is free in Government departments. This is a curse for all ordinary citizens.
