Bribe to get a copy of FIR

Reported on March 17, 2011 from Gurgaon , Haryana  ι Report #26049

On my first visit to Delhi, I lost my mobile while travelling in a tourist bus. Tried to report it to the nearest Police Station somewhere near Supreme Court. No one there was ready to talk to me or help me in any way. In short, they just neglected my presence in their place. I went back to where I had put up i.e. Gurgaon and visited the nearest Police Station at around 9 in the evening. The same story got repeated there. Still I was adamant to lodge an FIR or else getting a new SIM would be difficult back home in Pune. Waited outside the dark Police Chowkey for about an hour enjoying mosquito bites. Getting no call from the officer inside, I entered and stood in front of him. After another 15 minutes, he obliged me with a copy of FIR. I was about to leave after thanking him for his kind help. But he politely asked for Chai-Pani. I took out a 50 rupee note and pat came the reply that it is too small an amount for all of them. Without hesitation, I had to pay a 100 rupee note to my ultimate relief as if I got back my mobile phone from the Police *******
